Raphael Soyer

Russian/American, (1899–1987)


Raphael Soyer was born in Borisoglebsk, Russia in 1899. He attended Cooper Union, the National Academy of Design, and the Art Students League in New York. Soyer taught at the John Reed Club in New York, the Art Students League, the New School for Social Research, and the National Academy. He was also hired to document dramatic scenes and characters in a movie production and illustrated two books for author Isacc Bashevis Singer. He died in New York City, New York in 1987.
